AZ Hanoi cookery course

I was so excited to do an afternoon cookery course. I'm not sure Argiris felt quite the same initially but we both had such a good time. We met our chef, Mr Jack (I9 dont remember his name in Vietnamese) and Dang (Tom) , our tour guide and translater at the Cai Mam restaurant in the Old Quarter. We selected three dishes that we wanted to make:

Pho Ga - rice noodle soup with chicken

Thit Kho Tau - traditional braised pork

Pho Chien Phong Bo - deep fried crispy noodles with sautéed beef and green vegetables.

We went with the chef to the local market, armed with little shopping baskets, whilst he selected fresh ingredients and bartered the price.

Back at the restaurant, and to the amusement of other diners he showed us how to wash and prepare the ingredients and then we cooked our dishes with his help.

We were offered a complimentary drink to have with our meal, either egg coffee or egg beer.

We selected a cold beer, minus the egg and enjoyed our meal.

As I said before, you always do interesting things - was the meal tastier or less so because you prepared it?
