The top of Langkawi and the route to Kuala Lumpur or Home

Few hours left in Langkawi so a drive to the top of Gunung Raya the 891 meter highest peak of the island seemed a good way to pass some time. From the top of the windy road the view of the surrounding small islands was spectacular.

The ferry trip back was again 2 hours, and although the slow speeds of getting cars on and off the ferry would have driven any Greek ferry crew to commit suicide on the spot, was pleasant and efficient.

And what you do if you don't want your last two days of travel before the flight to feel boring?

You find an unexpected place to stop.

Bukit Merah Laketown Resort sounds a bit more grandeur than it is. Although during holidays serves as a water park too it is the entry to the underrated Urangutan island. A small reserve and rehabilitation centre to see urangutan.

The hotel itself had a really nice Ramadan buffet spread that we enjoyed in the evening. In the morning though we headed to the Urangutan island. It is a short 15 minutes ride by a small boat and you spend on the island 45 minutes to an hour, worth every minute. We had been lucky few years ago to see urangutans in their natural environment in the Indonesian Sumatra but this was still a very informative and entertaining experience.

You can watch the families really close and even in a short while see the different behaviours.

Admittedly a fence separates you from their environment where they are free to roam but is amazing watching them as they come for some extra treats or simply to watch the intruders.

Totally recommended if you have a car and you can stop by.

And then the 3 hour drive to Kuala Lumpur was uneventful through the tweeked infotainment system of the Ativa, this time helped by the more detailed directions of Petal maps. This would have saved us a lot of aggro on the way out. The drive near Ipoh passes some magnificent hills that Ann will add pictures from.

And for the last evening a memorable meal at Chef J. A bit off the beaten track but we went there by bus easily. It is one of the hot meal tickets of the city since it doesn't accept reservations for its main area and has some private rooms booked well in advance. Well, some appreciative and polite request did its miracle and when we arrived we were placed unexpectedly in one of its private areas to be joined later by a couple and their wonderful son. The food particularly the roasted whole chicken and it's famous noodles were wonderful

We had a lovely chat with one of its waiters who after living in UK for over 6 years and had a relationship to be married for 4 returned to Malaysia to take care of his mum who had treatment for cancer, with his relationship braking down after a while. A high sense of duty almost obligation to his parents was apparent when we talked but he couldn't hide the sadness of what happened maybe as a result. A great person.

And that is the end my friends apart from the conclusions of the trip.
