Glaciers

Greymouth was only a stop for the night. Morning came after a heavy rain during the night and the clouds started parting. Ready to go to the glaciers.

The trip was relatively short but because we were staying in Josef and wanted to do do our walks today we went first to lake Matheson. It is a lake where the Mount Cook and Mount Tasman peaks look at themselves in the mirror.

We walked part of the circular lake walk and then took the short drive to Fox Glacier car park. From there to the glacier View Point is 40 minutes via a gorgeous almost tropical forest with a river running along

And then the view point of the glacier

Walk down was entertaining with the new story of Tom and Dick but these belong elsewhere.

Half hour back tracking to Josef and the glacier car park. There are various walking options but the walk to the view point of Josef glacier is an easy 20 mins not as impressive as the walk to Fox but more rewarding at the end.

Would you believe we are staying in a youth hostel? Well ok, a hostel. It's great. Perfect for our needs, met some lovely people and best of all, we have an en suite. No trekking across the campsite for me tonight.

Some photos from our journey today, bare in mind from a moving car, but still not able to give justice to the landscape.
