Last day in Hoi An

Final look around the old city and the beautiful buildings.

Although the streets were relatively quiet at 10am there was a feeling of celebration in the temple. We later discovered that today is the Festival of Lanterns. As we would see later in the evening.

Vietnam is famous for its coffee and we have tried various specialities. Today was a Phin filter coffee. We avoided the Weasel coffee, partly because it was three times the price and partly because it is made from weasel poo. Apparently the weasel eats the coffee berries. After fermenting in its gut, it poos them put. They are collected, cleaned and roasted. A step too far?

In other stories religion, tradition and the local communist party seem to be getting along just fine as manifested in all aspects of life.

Another afternoon on the beach and prepared for the next leg of our trip tomorrow. Argiris found a lovely little restaurant specialising in various Chicken dishes Com Ga. Long Com Ga is from the better ones apparently. Unfortunately the offal offering had finished but the rest was great.

Simple food with rice and salad, and chillis on the side.

The river came alive this evening and im afraid my photos do it no justice. All the boats were festooned with beautiful lanterns and there was much celebration.

Tomorrow is another day and the next part of our adventure heading further north.
