Leaving Rotorua

Moving on, leaving behind our lovely tent, and heading south to Wellington via lake Taupo. I expected motorway (naively) and was pleasantly surprised by highway 5 being a fast A road, beautiful scenery and plenty of places to stop. Lake Taupo, a large lake hosting various water sports and seaplane, was stuning. Surrounded by mountains. Brief stop here to take in the views and hokey pokey ice cream.

Then our six hour drive began. Roadworks along the way slowed us down. Argiris and i dont queue well!!!

After such lush green vegetation, we passed through Waiouru where there were no trees and resembled English moorland with beautiful purple heather. Just like the Trough of Bowland.

Although beautiful, the drive was tiring. We stopped briefly in a small town called Levin. Looked beautiful with colonial style shops along the main street. Would have liked to spend more time there but we still had a way to go. I'm sure I would have found a quilt shop there!!!!

This is taken after leaving Levin.

Finally reached Wellington and our lovely sat nav directed us to the centre of an industrial estate. It wasnt far out. We are staying in between the industrial estate and the docks. Again in Top 10. We have a cozy cabin which will be home for 2 nights.
