Melaka evening and lazy day

The evening improved the impression of Melaka as we walked towards the centre from an alternative road that was crossing the now illuminated canal.
The Peranakan Mansion, not to be confused with similar sounding establishments nearby, serves Nyonan cooking (an original fusion before the word was invented) in a mansion decorated nicely inside like a preserved aristocrat house. We had half duck and a lovely redang chicken served by a lovely and genuinely polite lady who originally came from Medan Java in 2007.
The Chee ancestral house nearby now owned from a wealthy family
is one of the multiple impressive houses in this street from the Chinese trade past.
On the way back we passed several empty tourist bars with touts at the riverfront. The water was also stinking which with a full stomach might have been the wrong combination.
Next morning knowing that there is little more to see we had lazy day with some swimming in the long pool and a walk later in the afternoon.
We went back to the Chinese neighborhood that looked even more impressive during daytime. One of the houses of the wealthy families was converted to a museum with items from the era they were really important and family occasion photographs
They were other more or less well preserved buildings talking of the era when Melaka was a very important port and trade centre even before Portuguese and Dutch colonisation
